Overview

LinkORB Engineering is looking to expand our global team of remote technology professionals and currently hiring for a technical writing lead. At LinkORB, the techincal writing team creates content for internal and external audiences to:

  • Improve the onboarding experience for new team members
  • Align teams around technical standards and best practices
  • Share and educate on the use of historical and emerging technologies at LinkORB
  • Promote LinkORB’s open source contributions
  • Develop and implement strategies/tasks geared towards the growth of LinkORB’s engineering blog

If you are an experienced player-coach with technical writing and project/people management skills, please keep reading! The technical writing lead is responsible for:

  • Defining and prioritizing a backlog of work items based on input from engineering and business team members
  • Enabling and unblocking technical writers by clarifying requirements, desired outcomes, or resolving issues as they arise
  • Expansion and maintenance of published technical writing style and standards guidelines
  • Evaluating technical content for accuracy, readability, and alignment to style and standards guidelines
  • Onboarding and evaluate new technical writers
  • Ensuring technical writing team output provides business value
  • Contributing technical content along with the team

Requirements: Technical writing lead

At LinkORB, we take a “documentation-as-code” approach and our technology portfolio spans over 260 GitHub repositories. All technical documentation produced by the team comes in the form of Markdown pull requests. The person selected for this role will be conversational across and ideally from practical experience in multiple of the below:

  • Developer workflow and tooling
  • Open-source web application server + package architectures like PHP, Node.js, or Ruby
  • REST APIs and methods for automating API documentation
  • Application containerization
  • Relational and non-relational data structures
  • Data transformation and analysis
  • Web application and database security

That said, at LinkORB we understand that no one knows everything and the learning journey is part of what we love about the work.

In additional to technical knowledge, the technical writing lead will have a experience with:

  • Writing technical documentation and editing technical documentation written by others
  • Project management in a software development domain
  • Working closely with technical team members to translate and distill technical content requests into actionable work item(s)
